Unlocking Excellence: The Power of Always Doing Your Best

As I sit down to write this blog post, I am reminded of a valuable lesson that has shaped my personal and professional journey: In whatever I do, I must always give it my best. It's a simple yet powerful mantra that has guided me through challenges and propelled me toward success.

It is quite timely that my first blog post for Momentum Consulting is about Fundamental of the Week #5 Always Do Your Best. What really is your best? For me, it means putting your best foot forward each time you have been delegated a task, a job, a project, or whatnot. Whether it's a presentation or a new project, it is about giving it your all and showcasing your skills to the best of your ability. When you put your best foot forward, you demonstrate commitment, dedication, and a desire to excel. It sets a positive tone and creates a strong impression, both in personal and professional interactions.

Developing the practice of doing your best each day is not a one-time event; it's a continuous process that requires discipline and self-awareness. At first, your best may be influenced by external factors such as the expectations of others or the standards set by your industry. However, as you commit to consistently giving your best effort, something remarkable happens: your best evolves.

What constitutes your best today may not be the same as what constituted your best a year ago or even a week ago. What I mean by that is as humans our energy levels fluctuate each day and there may be some circumstances that can affect our best performance. In the process of building a habit of giving your best each day, learn to give yourself grace. That is what I call giving your best to yourself.

Some days, your best maybe 50% of what your best was yesterday. Regardless, acknowledge yourself for still showing up, for still giving it your best energy that day, and for knowing that no matter how small the progress is, you are still moving forward. By consistently working on yourself and choosing to improve each day, you raise the bar and expand your capabilities.

If you are just starting out in choosing to give your best, It doesn’t have to be one big leap of change. You can start living and being your best by learning something new each day. You may create a new routine of reading a chapter of a book that helps you become better at what you do first thing in the morning. The more you do it, the less scary it becomes. What was once a daunting challenge becomes a routine task, and what was once your best effort becomes the new baseline. This constant evolution is a testament to your growth and development as an individual. This is what will propel you to keep giving it your all.

When you make a habit of doing your best, you cultivate a mindset of excellence. It becomes ingrained in your work ethic and permeates every aspect of your life. Whether it's tackling a complex project, nurturing relationships, or pursuing personal goals, doing your best becomes the standard by which you measure yourself personally and professionally. It becomes a source of motivation and fulfillment, driving you to continuously strive for improvement.

As you strive to always give it your best, I’d like you to remember that it is not about perfection. It is about giving your wholehearted effort and embracing the process of growth. Some days, your best may be extraordinary, while on other days, it may be more modest. As I have said at the beginning, give your best to yourself and learn to give yourself grace. The important thing is to consistently show up and give it your all, regardless of the circumstances.

Always doing your best is a powerful practice that can transform your personal and professional life. By putting your best foot forward and giving it your best shot every day, you set yourself on a path of continuous improvement and success. A growth mindset. Embrace the habit of doing your best each day, and watch as your definition of "best" evolves and expands, propelling you towards excellence.

A lifelong learner,
Katrina
